It was an absolute blessing to go on the Dominican Republic mission trip. I cannot thank the Charter Oak Church staff, my senders, SCORE International, and most importantly God enough for this experience!
One major takeaway from this trip was realizing how good we have it as well as the little worth of a material-focused life. This was my first time out of the country and seeing how others live and what they have compared to us in the United States opened my eyes. Our simple homes are mansions there, and the churches we attend would blow one’s mind.
We are blessed by God to be in the upper class of the world and to have ultra comfortability in our lives. Yet we so often overlook what we are given and constantly focus on getting more and more. This realization also made me think of how chasing after materialistic things doesn’t equate to happiness. While living with very little, the people in the Dominican Republic seemed more content and joyful than those in the United States. It also reminded me that material possessions will one day pass away and cease to exist. We take nothing to eternity with us! That’s why seeking eternal treasures first will yield the most “happiness” or fruit in our lives.
